Hi Kyle,

I set up Mycodo that is connected to my router/modem running on mobile/cellular network (no public IP).

I was wondering what will be the best way for me to be able to access the Pi running Mycodo from the internet i.e from my home.

I tried VPN server on the Pi but without public IP, I am not able to connect to the VPN server from outside.

Any guide or input on this is greatly appreciated.

Best regards.

Look at ngrok https://ngrok.com/product

Gives you the equivalent of a secure public HTTPS URL for your localhost server even though you’re behind NAT/firewall.  No router rules.  Secure.  Whitelists. OAuth options.  I used it extensively a few years ago for webhook development and was really impressed.  There’s an rPi version and free eval.

report back when you get it working ;)

@mugwump

Thank you so much. I will have a look and try to set it up.

Will report back on my progress.

Cheers.

@ga6anz make sure you read the manual as well.  There's a complete solution for access from outside your firewall laid out there as well.  Kyle was letting people log into his system for a while right after he published the hydroponics project.

I've used PiTunnel before, but it has limited features. You have to go through a procedure to allow HTTPS connections, but I've done it, so it's possible. I don't normally work with cellular networks, so I have a static IP address to work with, which makes networking pretty straightforward.
